Reconciliation Statue Reproduction
Check out the Reconciliation Statue reproduction that we sand cast for the Richmond Reconciliation Statue unveiling.
While our sand casting cannot replace a true sculpture by an artist, I think we were able to retain the artistic vision of the original created by Stephen Broadbent. I just love the original artistic work as I think it is perfect for iron and the more I worked with the castings the more I liked the design. This project came about in a very unusual way and of course was a mad scramble, but it is in line with my one of my long term lines of investigation to see if a small industrial foundry can find a market for supporting sculptors wishing to create pieces in cast iron. The tail wagged the dog in this case, since the client initiated the reproductions and not the artist (but with the artist's permission), but I hope we have grown in our ability to support artists and this would not be seen as diminishing the original creative work. Curious to get feedback from the community on this topic of mixing industry, commerce, and art. Cheers, James Cast Iron Reconciliation Statue Reproduction ![]()

Re: Reconciliation Statue Reproduction
Well James, your site looks great, I like the idea.
I posted here before about cast-iron but the costs I was quoted for my winged griffin to be sand cast seemed high- especially since I would be doing most of the work. EVen the Mexican foundry as I recall wanted around $500 plus my shipping a pattern and core pattern to them and shipping the cast back. I could never sell the cast for what I'd have to charge if it cost me $800 for the cast and shipping. At $1500-$2000 I think most people would expect a bronze casting. The griffin is a newel post with separately cast bolted on wings. I see you have newel posts on your site. ![]() |
