rebuilt website

I just finished rebuilding my site, and I would appreciate any input for changes before I actually put it out. I've added some videos as well as a number of new images. www.johnesimms.com
Thanks,
John

Also changed my email to: jsimms@bresnan.net

Re: rebuilt website; home button

John - Excellent website, and a fine selection of pieces also. My one suggestion is to add a "home" link to each page. I like to return to the main page and branch from there. Of course, I could and did use my browser history file.

Re: rebuilt website

John,

Nice site--no clutter, very direct, clear navigation. Since I am still mired in the world of dial-up for the time being, I could not look at the video you provided

Like Fritchie mentioned, a link back to the main page would be helpful.

I like that you have your C.V., biography, and location available at the bottom but they aren't readily available to the eye--especially with the blue on black. I would bring those to the main page in addition to where you have them now.

If you can, see if you can get rid of any scrolling. When an image is brought up, someone would have to scroll down to see the C.V./bio/location which, I assume, are important. Just getting rid of the "John E. Simms, Direct Metal Sculpture" at the top would work. If you are so inclined you could invest some time in making frames for your page.

Otherwise, good work!

Re: rebuilt website

Looks great.

The movies took about 6 seconds to load for me and view just fine.

'FAQ's' took me to gallery 1 again.

'Features' didn't work.

The map is a good idea as you live out of the center of town.

Re: rebuilt website

Looks good. As chance would have it, I just recently looked at your old page so I have a frame of reference. The new one I like much better. Some things I noticed:

The header of Gallery 1 is justified Right while the header of Gallery 2 is centered.

Features and email button didn't work for me either. (I didn't look at movies cause I have basic dial-up as well, sorry.)

It would be nice if on the main homepage I didn't have to scroll down to see your name/address. The upper images and links are so nicely laid out and self-contained, it doesn't lead me to scroll down.

And I would suggest setting your page up for frames and keeping the left-links from the mainpage constant on all pages. I'm actually redoing my site at the moment with frames. It was a little intimidating at first but when you get it down, it's pretty cool. And I would add the three bottom links to the side frame just to make sure they don't get lost.

Hope this helps.

Sam

John, everyone with quicktime should be able to play them. It's more an issue of the length of time required to download. To play 30 seconds of video can take 5-10 minutes to download for me.

Re: rebuilt website

Thanks Sam,

I would guess that 5 seconds should get the point across.
I'll fix it!
