Scaffolding Sculpture

I wonder how he constructs such tall scaffolding sculpture. By climbing on it, taking a few pieces up each time? How about getting the shape right?

“Scaffolding is a simple yet versatile system, similar in some ways to Lego or Meccano but obviously on a much larger architectural scale,” says Long. ...

top pic is pretty cool. Bottom pic reminds me of the businesses that will fill someone's yard with flamingos, or whatever, in the middle of the night.

Only if you can handle being thought of by others as full of hate just because you dared to voice your honest opinion.

Re: Scaffolding Sculpture

looks like speed rail to me. quick and easy to clamp and reclamp.

Do like the choice of material. Do Not like the end result or even the subject matter. why not make a sculptural scaffold? would be much better.

You can express dislike for something as long as you explain yourself. Being petulant and negative is just boring.

Explain to me why exactly being petulant and negative is boring.

If you were a child, I would give you a time out for your behavior. In an adult, it is tiresome and to be avoided. Boring was just shorthand for I don't wish to be a party to your 'tude. Intelligent critique of a piece, whether for or against, is enlightening and actually shares something other that a "yes" or "No".

I'm sure it took skill and plenty of time to build the deer - but explaining why it is hideous would be like explaining why I prefer to listen to music on my radio instead of fuzz.

Re: Scaffolding Sculpture

What I love about this sculpture ? It's economy of mark. Just enough lines, to complete the picture. Plus it is big. And un-do-able, a temporary expression that can be recycled and transformed into any other image.

I've done enough work with pipe and kee-klamps to appreciate the extravigance of this work, what fun, when you consider that so much of the work in this set of materials is so mundane, pedestrian and utilitarian. A deer is as relavent as any other subject, an artist that likes deer, what is wrong with that ?

Not the ultimate sculpture that the sum of all humanity rallies behind, but a fun, economical piece regardless.

Re: Scaffolding Sculpture

Well, being a baby boomer, I see recycled material (I always love found art ), something built with pride and someone that probably had fun building it.

It's a turn on to make something from scraps or recycled materials. This is very original. Scout
