"The Outsider"

Is this about:
1. going to the bathroom?
2. Fertility?
3. Factory workers waiting to get into the plant?
4. The Mundane life we live?
5. Lack of inspiration?
6. Something else?
7. None of the above. Just something i made.

Re: abstract color ??

the outsider is allways in the shadow of the shinny people or the crowd.
the crowd goes one way and the outsider goes the other way.

Re: abstract color ??

The painted figures work okay, but the base is not doing them any favors. It still looks like a piece of plywood, only now it has some paint smeared on it. There is gravity in your subject matter & you need to give it a proper base. More attention to what joins them all can make all the difference.

oh man. that turns me off. I don't know- it just comes off as "another one of those art people complaining about how they weren't popular in high school". I've been there, but theres plenty of art thats about being an outcast, and that aspect isn't interesting anymore. plus its depressing. which can be good. has anyone seen million dollar baby? 4 academy awards? people LOVE to be depressed. anyways, thats just what I thought.

Re: abstract color ??

Craig, I liked the work better without paint. The "crowd" looks threatening, nice forms. The "outsider" is not working for me, is not connected in any way to the others. He should be if you say he's in the shadow of the crowd. Maybe if you kept the group's form, would have worked better?

Re: abstract color ??

I realize all you asked for here was color assistance & you're getting more than you asked for. Your subject matter is valid. If you'd like more input, let us know. Sometimes fresh eyes and some tweaking are all it takes to make a piece really work.

Re: abstract color ??

anything i post is fair game.
iam still shooting from the hip with abstracts.
do to the limited tools and buget iam stuck with simple forms.
the outsider part was how i felt at a scluture exhibit.(lack of art school etc).
thanks for the comments.

cooljames i used to live in ft.collins, i was around when fat tire was being brewed in a shack, oh but all that free empolyee beer we drank.
a friend was one of the brewers.

Re: abstract color ??

The narrative is so strong, too much sad story - kinda like a Charly Brown thing. I like the shapes and their bendings, archings, lamentings. More color than necessary also. A slightly different arrangement and a unified surface (paint job) would make this piece better, for me.

Re: abstract color ??

Try a mirror as a base for the navel gazers. I really do like the work unpainted.

Re: abstract color ??

i ask for the shinner by making a very bold statement,i have been
hit harder, much much harder.
its just the way you feel in a new place or when learning art, golf, sailing and
skiing.
the crowd has big heads full of info and my block head was left swimming.
i got lost in the crowd and iam tall.
i left ft collins in 95 to be a ski bum in crested butte co. then the knee
went south with my back so i followed the hole mess to florida.
if i cant ski then its sun burn time, but theres to many people in FL.
so moved to small town TX.

Re: abstract color ??

You know from Rock Port to Galveston is straight. Houston is the other leg of a triangle. But come by anyway. Just e-mail and let me know eta. Once in Houston the good map is at gallery3.com.
