Identifying who made a sculpture

Hello and please help,

About 15 years ago a dear friend of my mother's gifted a heavy wooden sculpture to her upon his death. My mother has since passed as well and I inherited the piece among other fine art.
At the time my mother received the sculpture, she was told it was a very important piece. Initial advice was to check if it was by Noguchi, but apparently that was not the case.
Regardless, I am desperately trying to learn who it is by. I have attached a digital photograph (pardon the flash effect). Any assistance anyone could give on where I could turn would be extraordinarily appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your consideration and time.
Sincerely,
John Milgrim
