Title: "there are 86,400 seconds in a day" size/double panel 20" x 20"/ mixed media/metal. plexi.powered glass. bone.glass beads.

This is one of a series of 6 double panels which is in progress to date. The end product of 6 double sided panels representing 24 hours will contain 86, 400 copper coated bb's and glass beads.

narrative in progress:86,400 seconds in a day

This series is both a journey and a reflection of memories real and imagined. The project was inspired in part, by the many traumas of Catholicism and the celebratory church rituals experienced as a child.

I remember the fragrance of burning incense, Gregorian chants, visual fragments of heaven and hell, horrific stories of the heretics, despoilers of the faith, express trips to hell for sins and incomprehensible misdeeds of the flesh.

Compounded with the beauty and mysterious fascination with Communion, Consecration, processions, Lent, crucifixion, Confirmation, rituals of the innocent, life passages of the mute and

terrorized are overlaid with premeditated coercions of rules and dictates.

These religious experiences are layered and conjoined over six decades of life experiences. A sense of time is punctuated with artifacts and remnants of relationships. A loss of a dear family member, the salty chasm of separation, the link to childhood dreams and frozen joys, realizations echoed in a chamber of love and devotion.

A spirit held and breath suspended in time while seconds are felt , textured and brushed with corroded silver. Each life frame tonally embellished along lanes of sand and wax.

Polenta blossoms and beads a purple glass seduce the center of our chest and tickle the eye. Touch the stones, and embrace the silent sounds of the chasm: Scream the descent into the abyss of creation and fearless energy. Sing to the spheres of the darkness and play the chant of lament. Be aware, solid, gaze, and devour the delicious moments of textured truth, myths, lies and contempt.

In this series, I proposed the concept of concrete time superimposed with dreams, yearnings, desires, and whimsy. Layers of palpable real time experiences coupled with cyber images and the tactile streaming dream movies.
