GODSPEED BARSOOM: DEJAH

12"x28¼"x16¼"

italian red, white alabama, spanish black, belgian black marbles

A friend and I were discussing titles, and he suggested that the veining in the red marble looked like a satillite photo of the planet from orbit - and then he quoted the Apollo astronaut who said "Godspeed Earth." I said, "Godspeed Barsoom" and he looked at me without comprehension, he had never read any Edgar Rice Burroughs. The conversation turned . . . to Dejah Thoris and John Carter, Martian airships, thoats, adolescent fantasies about red princesses, etc. Godspeed was also the name of one of the colony ships for the original Jamestown settlement.
