Paris Hilton Autopsy Exhibit
Another shocker at the Capla Kesting Art Gallery in Brooklyn.
Drunk Teens Learn From Paris' Autopsy Need some help this prom season remembering not to drink and drive? The Capla Kesting Art Gallery in Brooklyn has just the show for you. Next month the gallery will host an interactive public service announcement featuring the graphic display of a tiara-wearing, autopsied Paris Hilton with removable innards, ostensibly designed to warn teenagers of the hazards of underage drinking. The display also features Tinkerbell, Hilton's pet Chihuahua, complete with matching tiara. ![]() Artist Daniel Edwards created the piece to remind potential prom queens that no one is impervious to the pitfalls of drinking. And that reminder is very graphic. "The Paris Hilton Autopsy" offers a cadaveric nude Paris Hilton, laid out with twisted body and opened abdominal cavity on a coroner's table, while her cell phone remains in her grip. "Paris' internals, which include her small intestines, and other elements, are removable to assist teens with an empathetic view of drunk driving tragedy from the coroner's perspective," said Gallery director David Kesting. Awesome.... |

Re: Paris Hilton Autopsy Exhibit
Pretty tasteless is my reaction, but that's the world we live in today - instantaneous and interactive, with celebrities as full-stage as in Nero's Rome.

Re: Paris Hilton Autopsy Exhibit
Yup, shabby exploitation. Wonder what the public would think if he had chosen Princess Diana instead of Paris?

Re: Paris Hilton Autopsy Exhibit
The news article says, "Artist Daniel Edwards created the piece to remind potential prom queens that no one is impervious to the pitfalls of drinking." As usual, this proclaimed aim is just for publicity, to make the show sound noble, commendable.
If this were the real reason, he would not display it in an exclusive Brooklyn art gallery with well known track record of displaying such shocking nude figurative sculptures of celebrities. Wonder who if anybody has bought the previous one, and at what price. Edit: No wonder. It is the same artist who did the previous work of a nude Britney Spears down on all four on an animal furskin while giving birth with the baby head emerging. A stuffed Barbie with the Taco Bell dog and a childhood memory of pulling bones from a game board with a buzzer. The masses will acknowledge the 5-second abomination and just as quickly return their attention to American Idol and the epic struggle of Sanjayi...

Re: Paris Hilton Autopsy Exhibit
While there may be some skilled fingers and some decent moldmaking going on here, the sculptor is idealising and guessing about his subject, probably refrencing tabloid clippings; doesn't really look like her. Only the title would let you know who is being so sensationally represented. And I have always believed that if the work depends too heavily on its title, a purely textual entity, it could have been a better sculpture.
I think I remember a Britanny Spears giving birth last year. It blew over quickly...but he is no doubt reaping the benefits. Looks very fragile, whats it made of? |

Re: Paris Hilton Autopsy Exhibit
I found another sculpture depicting Paris Hilton called 'suicide socialite' You can find it here at The Venice Contemporary gallery.

![]() If looking at suicide socialite doesn't make you vomit, the accompanying copy will. Where do these barfing buffons come from, anyway?

Tacky is my impression on the first sculpture, little more than shock and gore.

Re: Paris Hilton Autopsy Exhibit
Back to the Paris Hilton Autopsy Exhibit. This picture below taken from this Reuters link shows the intestines. We can see that as a piece of realism sculpture, it is of poor quality. The dog's front legs also seem unrealistic.

It would be funny if the doggy was munching on her intestines, "kibbles and bits, kibbles and bits".

Re: Paris Hilton Autopsy Exhibit
So I'm handing out some fame and fortune to any movers and shakers out there. If you hurry-up and make the sculpture about Paris Hilton in jail you'll be an overnight sensation. But you've got to be first...someone's probably on it as we speak.
I'd do it myself but Obscurity and I seem to have a good thing going. Last edited by evaldart : 05-10-2007 at 07:30 PM. |
